Instead of probing into our own emotions and behaviours and exploring our milestones and achievements we can get mired in what others are thinking and doing and what we believe is expected of us by friends, family, work colleagues.

The thing is when it comes to others we can never truly know or understand everything about another person.  The image that people convey in conversation has little to do with their lightning-fast reactions to emotionally laden words.  We cannot read another person’s mind.  We do not know their motivations, what is right for them, what insights they have, or what they may have learned today.

That Kind of inquisitive energy is best spent getting to know the only person you can truly know that deeply.  Yourself.

Do you know what influences your thoughts, emotions, tendencies, and decisions?  What is it that gives you energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in everything you do?

You are right.  Those are not easy answers.  Yet, you should be aware of these things.  The only way to understand them is through spending time in self- reflection.

Researchers have shown that we think more than 50,000 thoughts per day.  More than half of those thoughts are either negative or gloomy and at least 90% are recurring thoughts from the previous day. We ask ourselves, “Why” questions, but never delve deeply into our internal thoughts, emotions and decisions to reflect seriously on “what” they mean or “what” drives us.  Most of us are poking around in a fog of self-deception and mistaken beliefs.

Just think what you can learn about yourself by expending just 10% more of those 50,000 thoughts on delving into your inner emotions and decisions.  How self-aware might you become?   Introspection leads to clarity of thought of who you are now and who you’d like to become which helps you identify the steps you need to get there.  Introspection is equally significant to ponder on progress, milestones, achievement, or anything – no matter how small – that brings you contentment or gratification. There are hundreds of thought provoking questions you can ask if you are ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery.  If you find that a tad overwhelming,

Ask one fundamental question.  What don't I know about myself.
